How to Spot Red Mites in the Coop

If your chickens have pale combs and wattles, you might be fighting mites.

These little guys are not very easy to spot. As a matter of fact, the less experienced chicken keeper might never know that they have a severe mite infestation until the chickens are very, very ill!

Therefore, you should always keep an eye on your chickens’ combs, and inspect the coop for red mites if they don’t look as deep red in color.

The mites do not remain on the chickens; instead, they hang out in the coop, waiting for the hens to roost for the night. This is when they feed on the chickens.

This video demonstrates how to catch and identify these little red mites so that you can treat your birds effectively, bringing them back into good health.
